When time and space was ripped open (Bender's Big Score), a lonely Philip J. Fry journeyed through the anomaly to find a giant planet sized alien called Yivo. Yivo attached one of it's tentacles to Fry's neck and reached into Universe Gamma (ours) and started taking over other's by attaching it's tentacle's to peoples neck's. The possessed people fell in love with the Yivo and started a religion based on worshipping it. Because Fry was the first possessed, he was made the pope. After all the universes inhabitants were thought possessed, the Yivo revealed its name to the people: Yivo.
However, when Leela, the last person in the universe without a tentacle was taken over and Yivo had revealed its name, Leela revealed that her tentacle was actually a purple hose and she wasn't under control. She held up a amputated tentacle she had later inspected under a microscope and revealed that the tentacles were really Gentacles
