Dr. Brutalov is a supervillain that was frozen in carbonite. In 3013, Fry, Leela, and Bender took him to 11-Worth Variable-Security Prison, so that he could serve his 300-year sentence. [7ACV14] According to Fry, Brutalov thawed out of his carbonite, slashed him with his finger knives, and froze him in the carbonite. This incident caused Fry to become upset with Bender, who abandoned him with Brutalov.

- Dr. Brutalov being frozen in a block and getting unfrozen is a reference to the 1983 film Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, in which the pilot Han Solo goes through the same experience.
- The suffix "-ov" in his name suggests a Russian background.
- The finger knives may be a reference to the claws of the superhero Wolverine or the glove worn by the primary antagonist of the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series, Freddy Krueger.
