Dumbsday! is the eightieth comic issue, released on 24 August, 2016 ^[1] in the US.

The Story

When President Nixon discovers that the population is getting too smart to re-elect him again, he gets Dr. Wernstrom to create a machine that will make everyone stupider until Election Day. However, the Dumbsday device affects everyone but Fry, making him “the smartest man in the world.”

Continuity

Nixon's head first became Earth president in "A Head in the Polls" in the year 3000 and has continued to use that loophole to be re-elected every four years, most recently in "Decision 3012".
Everyone on Earth, excluding Fry, also suffered from reduced intelligence caused by Brainspawn in "The Day the Earth Stood Stupid". How Wernstrom got his hands on a baby one is unclear.
Wernstrom was previously misidentified as "Wormstorm" in "How to Secede Without Really Trying".

Allusions

Bernie Burnman is a cross between Marvel's Human Torch and American politician Bernie Sanders.
