The relationship between Philip J. Fry and Bender Bending Rodríguez is a recurring theme on Futurama. They are often called best friends.

Development

Fry and Bender met in line for a suicide booth on 31 December 2999. ^[1ACV01] Fry moved in with Bender to his place in Robot Arms Apartments in the year 3000. ^[1ACV03]

Additional information

Fry and Bender maintain their mutual affection despite what would be seen as their mistreatment of one another, which ranges from name-calling to mutilation. In I, Roommate, Fry insists that Bender have his antenna (analogous to male genitalia) removed because it interferes with their apartment's TV reception. In Murder on the Planet Express, Bender is revealed to have had Fry's kidney removed while he was sleeping, planning to sell it.

Both have also performed acts of extreme loyalty. When Bender was lost in space in, Fry broke into a monastery to commandeer their space telescope, saying, "You have eternity to search for God. All I want is one lousy lifetime to find my friend!"

Fry and Bender also seem to enjoy more ordinary activities together, such as watching All My Circuits and mocking more enlightened or seemingly enlightened individuals, as in Amazon Women in the Mood.
