Popplers are omarcron children that have yet to develop, they were named when Leela returned to planet express after discovering them on a planet they were making a delivery to. When Leela tried one she noticed they were delicious and so Fry, Bender and Leela packed what Leela called "Only as much as we need" which happened to be about half of the capacity of the planet express ship when they returned they named them one of the 2 or 3 names that werent copyrighted and the name happened to be popplers.
