A quasar is a huge beam of light shot out from a black hole. they can be billions of kilometres long, brighter then the http://theinfosphere.org/Sun sun and can attract debris nearby.

The planet express crew have encountered a quasar when the planet express ship was heartbroken when Bender dumped her and planned to fly into a quasar to fuse their programming together.
