Shrek is a fictional ogre from the 1990 book of the same name. DreamWorks adapted the book into a film series, which became the highest-grossing animated film series of all time and has spawned video games, comics, television specials, and a musical. Futurama has referenced the character twice.
References to Shrek in Futurama
- In "The Bots and the Bees", after Fry says that he went to the bathroom and his pee was green, Hermes says that he was wondering who Shrek'd in the toilet — a reference to the fact that Shrek is green.
- In "2-D Blacktop", after he, Fry, Leela, and Bender are collapsed down into two dimensions, the professor says that the new Shrek movie won't look nearly as good — a reference to the fact that the Shrek films have a three-dimensional look.
