:Well, I certainly agree about the featured articles. As for the layout, it basically matches the main page, which is good, but what kind of links go in those two sections? Rotating selection on the right, mass of links at the bottom? - [[User:Quolnok|Quolnok]] 13:56, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

Discussion

This is a follow up to the discussions about the portals, and I personally believe that the Portal:Characters cannot come up soon enough.

I will begin working on a layout design for all portals as soon as I get the chance.

As for featured articles on Portal pages, I think we should keep it simple, use already featured articles on the Main Page, which deal with the portal's subject at hand, e.g. for Portal:Characters, obviously character articles that were featured.

Since it is not so significant that you are featured on a portal page, I recommend that we don't really bother keeping score on it, which means I recommend the monthly featured article following a similar scheme: {{portal:characters/feature for <month>}}. The feature should not have a year assigned, as it should rotate every year, if we believe that a specific month should have its article changed... well, it's just a simple matter of doing that.

Portals should in general have an introduction (preferably short), some links to relevant articles (not specific articles under the subject, but category links and terminology articles if they exist), then a feature and a couple of articles linked, maybe also rotating somewhat, but perhaps not.

This quick mock up should indicate my direct conception for the design:

+------------------+
| Introduction |
+---------+--------+
| Feature | Links |
| | |
+---------+--------+
| Bunch of links |
+------------------+

However, I am not entirely sure this is the best way to go, so any suggestions would be appreciated! --SvipTalk 13:43, 11 July 2009 (UTC)
