Thermostadt is a picturesque, yet morbid city and the capital of the Robo-Hungarian Empire. It is populated by superstituous robots, including Bender's uncle Vladimir. Vladimir's gothic castle overlooks the city.

- Stadt is the German word for city. Thermostadt is a play on thermostat.
- The setting of the Robo-Hungarian Empire refers to the 19th and early 20th century Austro-Hungarian Empire. Austro-Hungary was comprised of several modern nations, including Austria, Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and parts of today Romania and Serbia. It was officially a "dual monarchy," with the Austrian Emperor simultaneously (and separately) King of Hungary. The Empire collapsed at the end of World War I.
