::::The actual upgrade is easy, I've done it twice. But I always have to revert to the old version, because you have to run some scripts from the server, and the help files are un-helpfully vague on ''how'' exactly you do such a thing. One other option is to install the new version in a new directory, copy all pages over, then delete the old directory and move the new one. Downside is that all history and user accounts are lost... Question...

I'm constantly being blocked for editing stuff. I'm wondering why? All my changes are relavent and correct. Please reply. Holy Sock

I don't remember blocking you, nor anything you've done. Has someone removed one of your edits, and then you put it back in? That might be a reason. If someone removed one of your edits, and you think it was a good edit, go to the page's discussion area and ask why it was removed, or give a reason that it shouldn't have been removed. Other than vandalism, I can't think of another reason you would've been blocked... --Buddy 12:55, 11 January 2007 (PST)
I'm still being blocked by you for some reason. Can you explain why? If you are not doing it intetionally could you unblock me from editing? Holy Sock
It's not me, and you don't appear on the block list. It's probably a glitch. Copy/paste the message you're getting, and I'll see what we can do. If all else fails, I can delete your account and you can re-register, which may clear up the problems... *shrug* Buddy13 FW16.png 13:14, 16 January 2007 (PST)
I suspect it's an IP block. - Quolnok 03:30, 17 January 2007 (PST)
"Your user name or IP address has been blocked by Buddy13.

The reason given is this: Intentional vandalism. You may contact Buddy13 or one of the other administrators to discuss the block. Note that you may not use the "email this user" feature unless you have a valid email address registered in your user preferences. Your IP address is 195.93.21.72. Please include this address in any queries you make.

It appears Quolnok was right. Your IP is blocked, so whenever your cookies expire, you are seen as an IP, and prevented from editing. But the only edit for that IP was removing links from the Community Portal and replacing them with the phrase "ummmmmm grab my penis" on 2006-02-13 click -- Not really unbannable, unless you can give a decent excuse for doing that. Two things, though: First, it says right there "include this address in any queries", which you didn't do, thus making it harder for us to get to this point. And you could've just as easily checked it yourself, by clicking "Special Pages" in the left column, and looking at the list of blocked IP's and Usernames. --Buddy 19:46, 20 January 2007 (PST)

Thanks for the welcome

I've recently come to know the greatness of Futurama and have all the dvd's. I'm glad to see they are coming back, but hope they don't stink. I may contribute here every once in a while, but I'm mainly on English Wiki. You know I've often thought that wikipedia will become like the Infosphere... Thanks again. --WillMak050389 13:39, 1 July 2006 (PDT)

"Borrowed Images"

There is an image called OldNY.jpg and it is off of the Wikia Futurama Wiki. Though, it is needed for the Past-O-Rama article. Is this okay? User:Bender Bending Rodríguez/sig

We need to create a tag to add to images that need replacement. We prefer it if the members here capture the screenshots themselves. If you cannot do this, the preferred thing to do is use the AwaitingScreenie image. The use of this image makes it easier to track down needed images. Images being borrowed from other sites just opens us up to more liability. We're already in somewhat of a grey area just using so many screenshots in the first place, but we want it to be as legit as possible (i.e., illustrative, informative images only). As such, I'm proposing that we create a "this image needs to be replaced" template to add to borrowed images and images of low quality (either too small, or bad JPEG artefacting). I'll get to that in a minute. I actually have some net time, so I can do crap for once. Buddy 20:56, 24 December 2006 (PST)

Font

When will the AL1 Font thing you put on Quolnok's talk page be ready? --Bender Bending Rodríguez 18:50, 2 December 2006 (PST)

Here. Buddy 22:08, 24 December 2006 (PST)

How?

How do you make images by yourself? --Bender Bending Rodríguez 18:57, 2 December 2006 (PST)

Photoshop. Buddy 22:08, 24 December 2006 (PST)

Pay?

To install a Wiki, do you have to pay for the plan? User:Bender Bending Rodríguez/sig

Yes, you have to have a domain hosted somewhere. You can't put a wiki on nothing. YOu must have a website. This costs money. But yet another Futurama wiki is so unneeded. Buddy 22:08, 24 December 2006 (PST)

Logos

Do you have any idea of how to change logos on wikis without uploading an image called "Wiki.png"? --Electricbolt 13:34, 23 December 2006 (PST)

You could change the code, but it's easier just to replace the image. Buddy 15:27, 23 December 2006 (PST)

How do you change the code? Where do you find the code? --Electricbolt 15:10, 24 December 2006 (PST)

I don't know, I did it the image-replacing way. It's in one of the PHP templates somewhere. Possibly index.php.

Then how do you replace the image, because the ATHF wiki I created won't do anything else. --Electricbolt 14:05, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Surely your wiki has help pages? If it's MediaWiki software, there's tons of help available. Buddy 14:43, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Yes, the site is MediaWiki. You can visit it if you want to, you should see the header for it! This is the link: http://athf.wiki-site.com. You like the header? --Electricbolt 16:35, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Finding Logos

Where can you find logos? Such as, if your wiki site name is "Wikifuturama", where can you find a logo wiki "Wikifuturama" written on it? --Electricbolt 18:51, 24 December 2006 (PST)

I didn't find the logo, I created it in photoshop. I used the Dungeon font for "The Infosphere", and two Futurama fonts for the "A Futurama" and "Wiki". Then I created a radial gradient (the noise-type, not the normal type) for the background, based on the light rays from the opening sequence (I don't think it's right, but it's good enough), and a snipped-out Infosphere from that episode, and combined them into the image you see there. I'd offer my services, but one wiki is enough. Why start another? Doesn't that make five now? Buddy13 FW16.png 20:49, 24 December 2006 (PST)

Yes, I was just giving an example on "Wikifuturama", I have just recently created an Aqua Teen Hunger Force wiki. Do you know what that show is? It's worse than Futurama when it comes to language, and Futurama isn't as bad as The Simpsons. --Electricbolt 14:01, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Yes, I know what ATHF is. Photoshop is your friend. Buddy 14:38, 25 December 2006 (PST)

Photoshop

Will any Photoshop do? I have Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 Starter Edition. --Electricbolt 13:49, 26 December 2006 (PST)

As long as you can create images in it. Prefered web formats are JPG, GIF, and PNG. If you can save in one of those, you'll be fine. Buddy 09:33, 27 December 2006 (PST)
The only ones I am able to put on there is JPEG and BMP. What kind of Photoshop do you use? --Electricbolt 12:06, 29 December 2006 (PST)
How do you take screenshots on a DVD? --Electricbolt 18:07, 29 December 2006 (PST)
JPEG and JPG are essentially the same thing. For screenshots first you need a DVD drive in your computer, then you need DVD software that either doesn't use hardware accelleration or has a built in screenshot button. I use "Nero ShowTime", then paste the images into Paint (because it starts 60x faster than Photoshop). - Quolnok 18:27, 29 December 2006 (PST)
Only 60? --Buddy 09:03, 30 December 2006 (PST)
Seconds v minutes. Although it probably is a larger number; 120 or 180 perhaps. - Quolnok 17:33, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Acts for Bendin' in the Wind

Can you tell be the scene selections to Bendin' in the Wind? Because I would like to write that article. --Electricbolt 18:50, 30 December 2006 (PST)

I'll go ahead and answer this one, "This thing can't go fater than 80,000 miles per hour?", "We can't just dump him in the gutter like Grandma's ashes", "My shell ran", "I didn't get my beads" and "Put the metal to the pedal to the other metal". Enjoy, and don't forget to use the template. Now I'm off to do A Leela of Her Own, unsuspiciously located on the same disc. - Quolnok 20:53, 30 December 2006 (PST)

Thank you for answering this one. I don't have Volume 3 or neither do I have Volume 4. --Electricbolt 10:58, 31 December 2006 (PST)

Acts on other wikis

Is it okay if I use the Acts thing on the DVDs when I use spoilers on my wiki, here? --Electricbolt 11:47, 7 January 2007 (PST)

Changing image code

I now know how to change the logo by code. In LocalSettings.php, you put:

$wgLogo = '/path/to/your/logo.png';

It now looks like that doesn't it? I found a help page. --Electricbolt 14:01, 15 January 2007 (PST)

Yes, there are many things you can change in that file. It's a handy little file. --Buddy 11:25, 16 January 2007 (PST)

Image replacing logo on a wiki?

How can you change a logo on a wiki using the image replacing way? --Goin' through the bot wash... 15:35, 20 January 2007 (PST)

Comics List

Hey, I've been spending some of my time updating the Futurama Comics list, and was wondering if it was fine if I could add a page about each of the people that work on them and other projects they've done for Bongo (like this one I did on Ian Boothby) --Ivan

Be sure to use the CrewArticleTemplate, but go right ahead. Also, see here please. (and new items go at the bottom, not the top, please) — Buddy13 FW16.png 10:55, 27 January 2007 (PST)

I went to that A Whole Lotta Leela page. Read my reply. Everything I said in it is the truth.

Thank you for clearing that up. It was Robo Puppy Girl, who, while helpful, makes a few mistakes along the way. Anyway, if you would, please, read Templates (it's incomplete, but hey), and usually, when you create a new article, you can bet there's a template for it. Just put {{subst:[ARTICLETYPE]ArticleTemplate}} and replace the type of the article in there. It almost always works. There's a partial list of templates on the help page, and a complete list here. (and please sign your posts using four tildes) --Buddy 12:54, 31 January 2007 (PST)

Ok, will do. Thanks for letting me clear this up with you. --Ivan

why the hell did u block me

i got blocked for nuthing.... it said the reason was 'dont be retarded' wot the hell? Kozmic sk8r 03:03, 1 February 2007 (PST)

Nobody gets blocked for "nuthing". I don't remember what you did, but I do remember typing that. I don't see it on the blocklist, so did your block just expire? I'm going to start a new page called Why was I blocked? where blocked people can check out the reasons. But you don't seem to be blocked anymore, so feel free to participate. -- Buddy13 FW16.png 09:10, 1 February 2007 (PST)

Clicks from WikiPEELia

I've been inactive for a while, I know; pleased to see the progress that's happened though, and I do plan to be active in the coming year. In any case, wanted to say hi and ask about something. I've worked a lot lately on another Wiki about PEEL, wikiPEELia; since PEEL is a futurama forum, there are references to futurama from time to time, and I've been linkifying them to the Infosphere wherever I see them. I was currious if you were getting any significant traffic through these links; the source would be at www.split-monkeys.de. See you around... [Gopher]:12:48, 1 February 2007 (PST) (oops, wasn't logged in, this is really me)

I checked, and it's not referring enough to be on the list (it could be among the 768 unlisted referrers), but typing that address into Firefox doesn't get me anywhere... are you sure that's the right name? --Buddy 13:29, 1 February 2007 (PST)

oops; no hyphen, I'll paste the main page link: http://www.splitmonkeys.de/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

Ripping images.

On that message you posted on the other talk page, when you press "Print Scrn/SysRq", will this cause it to print the image? --Electricbolt 15:18, 3 February 2007 (PST)

No, it'll just go to the the clipboard ready to be pasted into image software. - Quolnok 18:00, 3 February 2007 (PST)
What the heck? I can't find the clipboard in "All Programs". Is it found there? I have really never been on the clipboard, but have copied stuff there before. Electricbolttalk FW16.png

Featured Article

I was wondering what if the featured article was every two weeks instead of each month. By the time we run out of long articles the new series will have started - Humerbot 0.4 11:09, 5 February 2007 (PST)

When the featured articles were reactivated, I considered either monthly or fortnightly. Monthy won out because there isn't any system variable that counts fortnights, week and month are closest. Not sure if you have looked at the main page's source, but this is what the featured code looks like: {{Infosphere:Featured article for {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}, {{CURRENTYEAR}}}}. I just found this which would allow for fortnights ( {{ #expr: {{CURRENTWEEK}} / 2 round 0 }} ), however we have neither the extension nor the right version of MediaWiki. - Quolnok 17:51, 5 February 2007 (PST)
Now I feel bad for being too retarded to upgrade! I wish I had more PHP knowledge. Anyone here know about it and want access to the database to upgrade? -- Buddy13 FW16.png 08:42, 6 February 2007 (PST)
Well, unfortunately I've never used PHP. I think I will be late this year at uni though, not that that helps in the short term. - Quolnok 01:36, 7 February 2007 (PST)
The actual upgrade is easy, I've done it twice. But I always have to revert to the old version, because you have to run some scripts from the server, and the help files are un-helpfully vague on how exactly you do such a thing. One other option is to install the new version in a new directory, copy all pages over, then delete the old directory and move the new one. Downside is that all history and user accounts are lost... So I'm obviously reluctant to do that. --Buddy 18:20, 8 February 2007 (PST)
