Table:Futurama Wikia Being Showcased to Fox
This may not directly concern you guys but thought it may be worth a mention. The Futurama Wikia is going to be shown to Fox apparently, according to a new staff member who foolishly left me a message (and his email address). If it is shown to Fox, I have no idea what will happen except it might become Fox's official Futurama wiki or something.
This is the message:
Hello Solar Dragon,
My name is Adam Blumenfeld and I am Wikia's Entertainment Category Manager. I wanted to reach out and introduce myself, and formally congratulate you on the incredible work you've done on the Futurama wiki! In fact, this page is so great, I am designating it as one of our company's focus wikis for 2011. I'll explain a bit more about what that entails:
Wikia has been hard at work creating exciting new features for our site--interactive quizzes, live chat and, most recently, video feeds. We've partnered with Hulu to bring clips/full episodes of certain shows to Wikia...and with your permission we'd like to enable this feature on the Futurama wiki! Essentially, we'll be adding a video drop-down menu at the top of your page that links to a Futurama video sheet within the wiki. The interface is clean and beautifully designed. Like all of our add-ons, the goal here to create unique forms of content on certain wikis without overwhelming the user.
In addition, I'll be showcasing this wiki to the folks at Fox, so they can see how great this landing space is. You and your fellow admins should be incredibly proud of the work you've all done on here; this wiki truly stands out on the site. Please let me know your thoughts on the video feature, when you get a chance. We are only enabling it on five wikis total, so it is my hope you'll allow us to move forward with the project. - Is it me, or has that place gotten less atractive? If the staff of the show have been using this wiki, surely they'd have an opinion on which wiki wins the "official" title, if any. Personally, I doubt the guys running Fox would want to make a wiki they can't control the official wiki for something. Does Fox even still have a Futurama site?
The real official wiki is the first one to be mentioned as such in a commentary or other DVD feature. - Quolnok 04:56, 14 July 2011 (CEST)- And seeing as Eric Rogers claims that the writers use us daily, I think we have a greater chance of that happening. Plus, Wikia sucks. But it doesn't really matter what Fox does, as they have no control over what happens in the show or on the commentaries. I'm sure a corporate bureaucracy like Fox would love an ad-driven piece of trash like Wikia, but the real creators and the real fans prefer free-ness and open-ness. --Buddy 07:46, 19 July 2011 (CEST)
