So, it occurs to me that the MediaWiki developers are pushing for a new skin, that they hope will become default on all WikiMedia sites (including Wikipedia). This new skin is called "Vector", it is very minimalistic and simplistic.

Now I am not saying we should scrap all we got and move over to that, but I am intrigued. And I am considering making a - somewhat similar - skin to this new skin. Though, I will also maintain a focus on simplicity like the skin's ideal is.

A problem with a dark blue background is that you can't do a white foreground. Such big contrasts do not work. Unfortunately, I am beginning to become a little less appealed by the whole light blue foreground, so I might go... darker. Anyway, these are just considerations.

You can see the vector skin at the Usability Initiative Wiki or at Wikipedia itself (just remember to turn any skin altering settings off you may have). Another advantage of a different skin is that people can still use the old Monobook skin while we work on the new one. --SvipTalk 14:34, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I have set up a preview version of the new wiki - as well as a new version - here: http://new.theinfosphere.org/ Though, settings may conflict with the settings of the regular wiki. I recommend picking one to work with for the time being. Which means, I will probably be working on that. --Svip 15:49, 30 July 2009 (UTC)
I'm definitely all for a simpler theme. What we have now is a little rough on the old ocular sensors. It's like, too many colours or too busy or something. But I do think the 1px lines that fade out are kinda too trendy to be cool right now. --Buddy 23:26, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
Added some preview images of the design I am working on. --Sviptalk 23:29, 7 August 2009 (UTC)

I have begun working on some minor details of the theme. Such as links here and there, special pages, preferences, etc. I am still concerned about input fields around the wiki, such as the search bar and the text area where you edit articles.

I am not entirely against the current version, but I wouldn't mind a more modified version to fit with the wiki. But I am not sure the orange as of the current wiki is suitable. This is really an area where I need feedback. --Svip 21:35, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
