stub

The Infosphere has several standards that we ask users to adhere to.

Images
There are several different types of images used on the Infosphere. The most common type are screenshots taken from Episodes. Standard sizes for these are as follows:

*Region 1
**Earlier seasons (with dark left/right borders): 706x540 pixels
**Later seasons (clean edges): 720x540px
*Region 2
**768x576px

Do not crop the image to frame the subject. Full screenshots are always preferred. If you can't get the subject alone in frame, try to get them so they are central.

Screenshots are to be taken from digital formats only. Screenshots that are uploaded with "Fox" or "Cartoon Network" watermarks in the corner will be immediately removed.

Non-screenshot images (i.e., DVD's, Comic books, Voice Actors) should be as high-quality as possible. Preferred formats are JPG for photos and screenshots, and PNG for smaller images.

Please make sure that when you upload an image, you give it a title that describes what is depicted. I.E., do not upload an image called "pic1.jpg".

Personal Images
Each user is allowed three personal images: Two larger images, roughly the dimensions of standard screenshots; one 16x16 image to be used in your signature. It is recommended (but not required) that you give the images a name like "[yourusername]1" and "[yourusername]2" so you can update images easily, without having to ask someone to delete the old ones.

Redirects
Anyone who's tried searching on Wikipedia understands how obnoxious it is when the top ten results are redirects. Thus, use of redirects should be kept to a minimum, and should be avoided for common names (I.E., Redirecting "Fry" to "Philip J. Fry").

Articles
Articles on the Infosphere should be as comprehensive as possible, without being a word-for-word transcript of episodes or comics. Please use the templates that are available for the more common types of articles. This will ensure consistency throughout the Infosphere.
CarlowCrabhttps://theinfosphere.org/index.php?title=User_talk:Robo_puppy_girl&diff=11774User talk:Robo puppy girl2007-03-27T15:50:36Z
CarlowCrab: User talk:Robo puppy girl moved to User talk:Robo faggy girl

The Story
Act I: So these three parasitic worms bore into a human's head...
During amateur nite at the Comedy Simulator, Zoidberg follows Humorbot 5.0. Unfortunately, Zoidberg isn't funny at all, and gets booed off the stage.

Zoidberg is miserable, because his uncle Zoid was a comedian, and he wants to follow in his footsteps. The Professor, being a Harold Zoid fan, pulls out an old 78 Million RPM HoloDisk to show the crew. The HoloDisk shows an old silent film, in which Harold Zoid portrays a barber who ends up beheading his customer. Zoidberg decides to write a letter to his uncle to ask for help on his comedy routine. He writes the letter using ink collected from his ink pouch.

In the Final Curtain: Old Actors' Home, Harold Zoid reads the letter. Another resident of the home asks Harold Zoid what the scribble-di-gook is. Harold Zoid explains that Zoidberg may be his ticket out of the home, and then writes a letter to Zoidberg asking for money and telling Zoidberg to come to Hollywood, which Zoidberg reads to the crew.

Act II: Welcome to Hollywood!
They set off for Hollywood. The crew then goes on a tour bus. 30th Century Fox studios is the first stop. Bender jumps off the bus when it passes Calculon's house, and impersonates a hot-water heater to gain entry. Zoidberg then leaves the tour to meet Uncle Zoid for lunch.

Uncle Zoid tells Zoidberg that he's unfunny, and tells him he should go into drama. Conveniently, Uncle Zoid has a script for a drama, but needs a million dollars to get it produced, and Zoidberg agrees.

Act III: The legendary Harold Zoid!
Zoidberg is upset about lieing to his uncle, but Bender comes in and offers to ask Calculon for the money. The crew goes to the studio, and Bender presents the script to Calculon. Bender entices him by guaranteeing Calculon the Oscar. Initially, Calculon declines on the basis that he doesn't like the font. However, once he spots the legendary Harold Zoid's name, he agrees to star in the film.

The film, "The Magnificent Three", is about a son, the vice-president, who doesn't wish to follow in his father's footsteps (the president).

Harold Zoid turns out to be a horrible director, and gives ridiculous instructions to the actors and extras. While looking for a parking spot for the premiere, Leela lands the ship in the La Brea Tar Pit, and the ship sinks, trapping her and Fry. Not surprisingly, the film's premiere is a terrible failure. Calculon threatens to kill Bender, Zoidberg, and Uncle Zoid, if they don't get him the Oscar.

Act IV: How 'bout we rig the awards?
When the Oscar nominations are announced, The Magnificent Three is snubbed. Calculon is infuriated, and Uncle Zoid offers to rig the awards.

Leela is unable to start the ship to escape the tar, and Fry spots a caveman skeleton outside the window, which he misidentifies as Sylvester Stallone.

Back at the home, Uncle Zoid despairs. Zoidberg, however, sets off to save their lives.

At the Oscars, Bender sneaks Zoidberg inside disguised as food. Harold Zoid enters and tells Joan Rivers' head that he's only there to fill space.

Act V: I always knew I'd die at the bottom of a pit!
Billy Crystal's head, the host, begins giving out the awards. The Planet Express Ship hits the bottom of the tar pit, and Leela detects the L.A. subway system below them.

Bender and Zoidberg take over and Zoidberg announces Calculon as a nominee for Best Actor. Zoidberg sees Uncle Zoid's depression, and announces him the winner instead. Harold Zoid makes an acceptance speech, and then takes Zoidberg and Bender to the afterparty. Calculon storms in and demands the oscar, but gives it back. Then the ground begins to shake, and the Planet Express Ship explodes from the subway system. Fry and Leela are allowed into the party because the caveman's skeleton has stuck to Fry's pant leg, and the doorman assumes it's Sylvester Stallone.

Trivia
*Considered by many fans as one of the worst episodes.
*The commentaries actually mention gotfuturama.com
Quotes
Boxy Robot: *beep*
Goofs
*The 78 Million RPM HoloDisk may be spelled wrong. General useage implies that optical media should be spelled "disc" while magnetic media is spelled "disk". The holodisk appears to be an optical disc (a spoof on a large laserdisc, actually), but it's unclear whether the phonograph needle used to play the holodisk is an optical or magnetic reader.
*Although the words "Star Trek" are supposedly banned, "Star Trek: The Pepsi Generation" is nominated for best product placement. The commentaries cover by claiming they actually said "Start Wreck".
The Story
Act I: "Whimmy wham wham wozzle... let's party!"
Fry and Bender are watching "All My Circuits" when a commercial for Slurm comes on. The commercial advertises a new contest; the grand prize is a chance to party with Slurms MacKenzie at the Slurm Factory on Wormulon.

Act II: "I've never seen anyone so addicted to Slurm."
Fry starts guzzling Slurm like crazy, hoping to win the contest. Bender is feeling sick, and the Professor uses his new invention, the F-Ray, to see inside him and find the problem. He leaves the F-Ray with Fry and Bender "to be kept out of the wrong hands." They immediately start abusing it, and use it to search for the Slurm can with the winning bottle cap. Just when they give it up, Fry almost chokes on the cap, found in a can of Slurm in the fridge at Planet Express.

Act III: "Something's rotten on planet Wormulon!"
Fry and all of his friends arrive on Wormulon, and are greeted by Glurmo and Slurms MacKenzie. Glurmo leads them on a tour, where they encounter the Grunka Lunkas. While Glermo narrates the tour, they begin asking questions about the Secret Ingredient of Slurm. After Fry falls into the river of Slurm, Leela jumps in to save him; Bender jumps as well, just to fit in. Sucked down the drain, they wind up lost in an underground part of the factory. Fry tastes Slurm from the river, only to discover it's not slurm at all, and they begin nosing around, and discover the discusting secret - Slurm is a fluid squirted out by a giant worm! Meanwhile, Zoidberg, Amy, and The Professor finish the tour, and Glurmo notices that the others are missing.

Act IV: "That's the secret ingredient of Slurm? Ewwwwww!"
Fry, Leela, and Bender try to escape, only to run in a circle and wind up back in the room with the Slurm Queen, where Glurmo captures them. Bender is recycled into Slurm cans, and Leela is going to be dipped into a vat of Royal Slurm, transforming her into a Slurm Queen. Fry is force-fed a taste of concentrated Super-Slurm, which is so addictive he can't stop eating, even to save his friends. Still eating, Fry drags the vat over until he can release Leela. She saves Bender, and then dumps the Super-Slurm down a sewer grate, to Fry's horror. They make their escape, and run into Slurms MacKenzie, who wants to escape with them. When the Slurm Queen finds them, Slurms MacKenzie sacrafices himself to allow the crew to escape.
Biography
Calculon is most famous as the star of the hit robot soap opera "All My Circuits". He has also appeared in films, including "The Magnificent Three", for which he was nominated for an Oscar. Throughout his career he has lived a secret life unknown to the public. He is over a thousand years old, rather than 37 as claimed in his biography. He changes identities every few decades, and starting out from a humble beginning as a motorized service arm working on Project Satan made his way to being many of history's great acting robots, including Acting Unit 0.8, Thespa-mat, and David Duchovney. For most of this thousand years, he was also a Were-Car, until Fry and Leela broke the curse by destroying the original were-car.
The Story
Act I: Which crazy thing happening are you guys screaming about?
September 21, 3002: The crew of the Planet Express Ship is attending an unique event, accompagnied by Professor Farnsworth and Dr. Zoidberg: a supernova right up close. For this momentous occasion, Fry decides to make some popcorn in the ship's microwave oven, but unfortunately, he uses a portion of corn wrapped in metal foil. This causes a microwave malfunction, it generates a field of blue radiation which collides with the red radiation emitted by the exploding star. Both fields react violently with each other and hurl the PE ship through a time tunnel which carries it to Earth. Without the help of GPS and with a failing drive, the PE ship crash-lands in the desert, which results in Bender's body being smashed to pieces all across the desert in the crash, he is temporarily reduced to his head. Zoidberg is left to pick up Bender's body, but just as he is finished, he is abducted with the parts by the soldiers of a nearby air force base. It turns out that the crew has travelled back to July 9, 1947 and has landed near Roswell, New Mexico. Bender's body is mistaken for an UFO, and Zoidberg is mistaken for an evil alien - almost correct.

Act II: Yes, we tore the universe a new space-hole all right!
Return to the future is only possible as long as the hole in the time-space continuum punched by the supernova remains open, which leaves exactly 24 hours. The crew has several tasks to complete: aquire a new microwave, rescue Zoidberg and Bender's body, all without upsetting history. Things become more complicated as Fry mentions that his grandfather Enos Fry is stationed at Roswell, which presents the danger of time paradoxes as he is the only one who can infiltrate the military base without arousing suspicion, as he is the right age to be a soldier, male and two-eyed. Meanwhile, the bases officers are interrogating Zoidberg and making tests with him, to little effect, and they inform the President. Fry, carrying Bender's head, sneaks onto the air base (disguised in an army uniform with the help of All Purpose Spray), and soon runs into his grandfather. Fry is desperate to remove him from any dangers that might threaten his life, but somehow, he manages to move him from one mortal danger to the next. When they enter a local diner, Fry also meets his grandmother, Mildred Fry, his grandfather's fiancé, but it seems that Enos is more interested in young men. Meanwhile, Leela and the Professor, both in heavy disguise, are attempting to buy a microwave, with absolutely no success as microwave ovens weren't introduced then and the sleazy salesman tries to unload a huge gas oven on them, much to the anger of Leela who seems not to apreciate antiquated female role stereotypes. Fry, in his attempt to bring his grandfather to safety, drives him to a remote house and tells him to stay there, then leaves. Shortly afterwards, the house is utterly vaporized by the blast of a nuclear weapon test nearby, as is Enos.

Act III: The President is choking on my gas bladder! What an honour!
Meanwhile, Leela and the Professor have ended up at the diner and are ordering lunch. Leela spots a radar dish in the air force base, which would suffice as a substitute for a microwave as it emits the same radiation, but the Professor vetoes her plan of stealing it. Fry arrives with the grim news that he has killed his grandfather, and everyone is puzzled why he (or, given their relationship, the Professor as well) do not vanish. Mildred receives the news of Enos' death and is down in the dumps, and Fry accompagnies her to her home where they end up sleeping wih each other, as Fry believes she can't really be his grandmother as he still exists. Later, he finds out that he was mistaken and that, by sleeping with his grandmother, he is his own grandfather. While this is happening, President Truman himself arrives at Roswell to handle the UFO case and the interrogation of Zoidberg. The scientists have arranged Bender's parts in the shape of an UFO, and the President orders a vivisection of Zoidberg, which costs him a number of his internal organs, including one of his four hearts which seems to be a permanent loss. The crew now has no other choice than to drop all secrecy and pursue their goals by means of force, as time is running out, and they decide that history must take care of itself as Fry seemingly already messed it up bigtime. The PE ship attacks Roswell Air Base, the crew liberate Zoidberg and Bender's body and steal the radar dish. While leaving the atmosphere, Bender's head falls out of the cargo hatch, and there is no time to retrieve it as the supernova hole is almost closed, the PE ship returns to the future. Fry, Leela and the Professor again travel to the remains of Roswell Air Base and search for Bender's head, eventually locating it and reuniting it with his still UFO-shaped body.
Trivia
* The soylent products that the Professor asks for come from the movie Soylent Green.
* The fate of Bender's head is a parody of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Time's Arrow in which Data's head is detached in the 19th century and found in an archeological dig in 2368.
* There are some similarities to the movie No Time for Sergeants in the character of Enos and his fate.
* A short story by Robert A. Heinlein, All you Zombies, deals with a character who by the means of time travel and sex change ends up becoming his own mother and father. Maybe Fry's zombie referrence in connection with Enos' death is a spoof of this.
* During their rescue of Bender and Zoidberg from the military base, the Planet Express ship fires a missile which clearly has the episode title painted on the side. It also has a drawing of Dr. Zoidberg done in the fashion of Kilroy.
* This episode won an Emmy in 2002, for Outstanding Animated Program (For Programming Less Than One Hour).
* The episode bears many obvious similarities to the Back to the Future movies. It also strikingly resembles an early draft of the script to the first film, in which Marty McFly uses the blast of an atomic bomb to reactivate the time machine, and eventually reappears in the present in a refrigerator left out in the desert, similar to how Bender's head was left in the desert for over a thousand years.
* This episode is one of four featured in the Monster Robot Maniac Fun Collection, reflecting its popularity with both fans and the creators of Futurama.
* It says in the episode that if Fry's grandfather dies, he no longer exists. The same goes for Professor Farnsworth, though no one mentions it.
*This episode explains why the universe was destroyed in Anthology of Interest I. Had Fry not been frozen, it would create a paradox and destroy the timeline.
*The episode was supposed to be named "All's Well in Roswell" but got scrapped.
*This is the second time that Bender was seperated from his body for almost the whole episode, the first one being "A Head in the Polls".

Quotes
*Leela: OK, here's the plan. Zoidberg - pick up the pieces. Everyone else - take five.
*Professor Farnsworth: Your grandfather?! Stay away from him, you dimwitted monkey! You mustn't interfere with the past! Don't do anything that affects anything, unless it turns out you were supposed to do it, in which case for the love of God, don't not do it!
Fry: Got it.
Professor Farnsworth: If, for example, you were to kill your grandfather, you would cease to exist.
Fry: But existing is basically all I do!
*President Truman: Whistlin' dixie! I want this sent to Area 51 for study!
General: But Sir, that's where we are building the fake moon landing site!
President Truman: Then we'll have to really land on the moon! Invent NASA and tell them to get off theire fannies!
*President Truman: If you come in peace, surrender or be destroyed. If you're here to make war, we surrender.
*Professor Farnsworth: Start the ship, Leela! Let's just steal the dish and get back to our own time.
Fry: But won't that change history?
Professor Farnsworth: Oooh, a lesson in not changing history from "Mr. I'm-my-own-grandpa". Let's get the hell out of here already! Screw history!
Fast Forward
This episode introduces Fry's unique property that he is his own grandfather, which in turn causes a genetic anomaly which causes him not to emit the Delta Brain Wave, making him the ideal champion in dealings with the terrible Brain Spawn as he cannot be detected or affected by them.

Act I: Awesome! Awesome to the max!
Planet Express' stockholder meeting is taking place at the Lodgatorium Comfort Dome Inn, and Fry and Zoidberg get hungry and visit the Bot-Mizwah next door to get some free food. Zoidberg must stay out (no shell fish). Hermes tells the stockholders of Planet Express that the company is on the verge of bancrupcy, while Fry and Zoidberg move on to a Cryogenic Support Group which also offers free food.
There Fry meets That Guy, a 1980ies stockbroker who had himself frozen until a cure to his terminal disease, boneitis, could be found. Fry invites him to work for Planet Express, and they return to the stockholder meeting where Hattie McDoogal is demanding to nominate a new CEO because the Professor has insulted her cat. Leela, Bender, Amy, Hermes and the Professor (10.000 shares each) vote for Farnsworth, Fry (10.000 shares) and Scruffy (40.000 shares) vote for That Guy. Now Hattie (1 share) demands the floor and votes for That Guy, making him the new CEO of Planet Express.

Act II: Miss Johnson, have I changed? - No Sir, Mr. Fry!
That Guy is turning Planet Express upside down and blaming everything on the old management, that is the Professor. He makes Fry his vice chairman and intends to bring Planet Express right to the top of the delivery business, which means that they have to attack Mom's Friendly Delivery Company. Of course, Mom is not amused to learn this. That Guy follows his secret of success, which is that everything is about appearances, and gives Planet Express a completely new look and a completely new image. Zoidberg is not happy about the companys development, and sells all his shares to That Guy for a sandwich. Mom is getting agitated about the new "Delivery Kings" that business magazines write about so much (even if PlanEx hasn't made even one delivery since the takeover), and has a private meeting with That Guy after they have a talk at Elzar's Fine Cuisine. As the crew is voicing their concerns about the way That Guy is handling business, and Fry is defending him, That Guy tells them they are all fired and that Mom is going to take over Planet Express.

Act III: My only regret is... that I have... boneitis.
Fry insists that he is innocent of the selling of the company, but no one listens to him. He decides to block the takeover, and goes to the Intergalactic Stock Exchange in Earths orbit where the takeover is to take place in the Business Centre. All of PlanEx stockholders are there, plus Mom, her three sons and That Guy. Both companies have to agree to the takeover, and even though all of the Planet Express crew vote against it, it turns out that the shares Zoidberg sold to That Guy gave him majority control. The takeover is approved, and MomCorp now wants to buy all the shares it doesn't own at the price of 107 $ per share, which makes every remaining stockholder a millionaire. Fry asks That Guy if he will not stop the takeover, but he refuses because he's an 80ies guy. Just then, That Guy realizes that he forgot to get his boneitis cured, and dies horribly on the spot. After his death, Fry now has control of his shares and gives control of the company back to the Professor. The crew tries to stop him doing the right thing, but it is too late - the shares of Planet Express are, once again, worthless and the takeover has been stopped. The crew grudgingly goes back to work.
Trivia
*The businessman from the 1980s is loosely based on the character of Gordon Gekko from the movie Wall Street. In turn, Gekko was modeled after real world corporate raider Ivan Boesky. That Guy's real name in the scripts was Steve Castle.
*In the scene where That Guy and Fry are watching an ape fight, Calculon is struck by an oversize tricycle hurled from the ring. His angry "Get your stinkin' trike off me, you damn dirty ape!" is an obvious parody of George Taylor's line "Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape!" from the 1968 movie Planet of the Apes.
*The stock exchange space station bears a striking similarity to Space Station Five from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey
*The stock exchange's giant-image holographic public-address system ("I am Jor-El, Master of Scheduling!") is a reference to a scene in the 1978 Superman film, featuring a character named Jor-El and a tribunal of larger-than-life projected faces.
*That Guy had a Miami Vice lunchbox.
*At the Bot-mitzvah, the banner reads Hayom ata robot,or Today, I am a robot.
Biography
iHawk is a robot doctor who works as a medic in the DOOP Army in the war against Spheron 1. He has two settings: Irreverent and maudlin. Irrevelent makes him tell jokes and make fun of people, maudlin makes him unhappy about war. One of his hands is replaced by a martini holder and his name is written on his chest. He frequently argues with Zoidberg when in Irreverent mode as he thinks he is a better doctor and funnier.
Biography
Mr. And Mrs. Fry are Philip J. Fry’s parents who lived in a completely trashed house. Mrs. Fry loves sports more than her children, proven when she was giving birth to Fry, she cared more about a baseball game and was too busy playing golf when Yancy Jr. was trying to steal fry’s clover. She was also too excited about a football game to wonder where Fry had dissapeared to. Yancy Fry Sr. Spent most of his time building a bomb shelter for a nuclear war and was worried about the Y2K computers and believed it was the cause of Fry’s dissapearance. They both didn’t care about Fry and thought sending Fry to school was a waste of tax money and didn’t bother looking for him when he was frozen.
Biography
Seymour Asses, or Seymour for short, was acquired by Fry in August 1997 when he was barely more than a puppy. Fry had been called to a prank adress (Seymour Asses, or See more asses) and was devouring the now useless pizza, when a skinny young dog begged for a piece of it. Fry was eager to share his meal, and the dog adopted him as master and started to follow him around. He aquired the name of the prank adress and lived at Panucci's Pizza from now on, acting as resident dog and food taster. In the fateful night of December 31 1999 when Fry was frozen, Seymour didn't want to let him go, and Fry told him to wait at Panucci's until he was back. Seymour started to look for Fry the following morning and found him at Applied Cryogenics, he even managed to lead Fry's father and his brother there, but they failed to realize Fry was there and dragged Seymour out again, facing stiff resistance. For the rest of his life, Seymour would sit outside Panucci's Pizza and wait for the return of his master, until the world around him was all changed and he died in front of the now abandoned pizza shop. Some time after, his body was fast-fossilized, making it possible to clone him. The outer rind is made of dolemite, a heat-resistant mineral that allowed him to survive a lava bath. When Fry learned that Seymour had lived out his life without him, he had the cloning process stopped, as he believed Seymour had forgotten him, never realizing that he had been ready to spend eternity .

General
Neptune is a icy planet, the North Pole region of which is inhabited by Santa Claus and his little Neptunian workers. Besides the Fortress of Santa Claus, the village of the Neptunians and a Toy Factory there aren't many buildings in that region of Neptune.
Santa is mistreating the Neptunians within his reach, they are unemployed because he closed the toy factory - after all, he judges everyone to be naughty (except zoidberg), so there is no need to produce any toys. Also, they tend to be shrimpy because Santa doesn't feed them.

This state of affairs raises interesting questions wether there was a period before the coming of Robot Santa in 2801 when the Neptunians had decent jobs working in the factory for an earlier incarnation of Santa. Because the other Neptunians seen on the show are normal sized and have their own culture and cuisine, there might be a different part of Neptune in which the Neptunians live free from Santa's rule, or there might even be another planet called Neptune where this race originated.
The Story
Act I: Without me, there IS no mission!
Fry is disappointed because Leela and Bender went on a mission without him (and without his services as Delivery Boy), and because Leela is going out with another man - Chaz, the Mayor's aide. Fry is down in the dumps because he thinks himself unimportant. Meanwhile, Leela and Chaz are going to Elzar's Fine Cuisine, where Chaz manages to get a table without a reservation - Leela is genuinely impressed. Fry has adjourned to O'Zorgnax Pub to drown his depression in alcohol, however, Leela and Chaz enter and Leela tells him she may not make it back to her appartment tonight, and she needs him to walk Nibbler. Fry gets fined as Nibbler unloads a pile of Dark Matter on the sidewalk, just in time for Chaz to make a showy appearance in his car with Leela. Nibbler, however, reveals his intelligence to Fry and takes him to his spaceship, both leave Earth and head for Planet Eternium where the Nibblonian Council informs Fry that he is the most important person in the universe, for the fate of the universe rests with him.

Act II: Now it's personal!
Fry is told that due to his lack of the Delta Brain Wave, caused by a genetic anomaly because he is his own grandfather, he is immune to the attacks of the Brain Spawn and therefore the only hope of the universe. The Brains have constructed the Infosphere, a monstrous memory bank that contains all information in the universe. Once they have acquired all information, they will make sure that there is no new information by destroying the universe. Fry is to infiltrate the Infosphere and plant a Quantum Interphase Bomb inside that will blast the sphere into an alternate universe from which there is no return, then escape the blast on a Scooty-Puff, jr. (Who's ready for safe fun?), a clockwork-powered scooter. As the Infosphere opens itself for a final self-scan, Fry can enter the structure undetected as the Brains cannot perceive him because of his special thought processes. Fry plants the bomb, but hesitates to trigger it as he wants some answers on intriguing questions, like what postal stamp glue is made of (toad mucus) and what really killed the dinosaurs (the giant brain at the center of the sphere). The unauthorized access triggers the alarm, and as Fry tries to make his getaway, the scooter breaks. The brains become aware of his presence, among them the Big Brain. Fry now triggers the bomb, leaving sixty seconds to detonation. Fry is pleased that he is helping good triumph over evil, or so he thinks. The brains in turn show him what really happened on the night of December 31st 1999 when Fry got frozen - Nibbler gave Fry's chair a push so he fell into the cryogenic tube. Fry is furious with the Nibblonians for wrecking his past life, but before they can elaborate on the subject, the bomb goes off and transfers the Infosphere to the alternate universe.

Act III: Here I come, future!
The Brains think of a way for Fry to return to December 31st 1999, so he can prevent Nibbler from shoving him into the tube and thus stop the Nibblonians from crossing the Brain's plan to understand and destroy the universe. Meanwhile, Chaz has taken Leela to the Rocket Skating Rink that he has reserved just for them - impressing her once more. But the reservation means that the orphans from the Cookieville Minimum Security Orphanarium can't take their turn on the rocket skating rink as planned and are missing out. Leela asks Chaz if the orphans can join them, but he refuses as he wants to impress her with his amazing influence. This leaves Leela extremely testy, and she makes him eat his own badge - the romance is over. Fry is transferred by the Brain Spawn to Old New York, to the night he was frozen, where Nibbler is then busy ordering a pizza as I. C. Wiener at Panucci's Pizza to the address of Applied Cryogenics. Fry materializes behind Nibbler under the desk his other self is sitting at and seizes him, telling him what brought him there. Nibbler explains that he did not come back in time, and that Fry is needed in a thousand years time, and that the Nibblonians were afraid he might refuse being frozen. Fry, on the other hand, loves the future and has nothing against being frozen, but is still mad because he does not like being used. Nibbler now asks Fry if there is nothing in the future that he wants, and Fry answers that it is Leela - but that she doesn't think much of him. Nibbler thinks she may be the Other One, and tells Fry not to give up on her - he offers his help in the matter. Fry is now left to choose between saving himself or the universe - and Leela. He makes his decision and tips the chair his other self is sitting on, sending him into the cryogenic tube - the future is saved. Fry has just enough time to say that Scooty-Puff, Jr. sucks before he fades - and so, a thousand years later, Fry manages to escape the vanishing Infosphere on the Scooty-Puff, Sr. (The Doom-Bringer). Nibbler brings Fry back to Earth and then deletes his memory of the incident to maintain his cover. Before that, he gives Fry a flower that he in turn gives to Leela, and for a moment, she is happy to see him, although he is not the most important person in the universe. As she gives him a kiss, Fry's final utterance is "YES!"

Biography
Matt Groening (Matt says it rhymes with "Complaining") got his start writing a comic strip called "Life in Hell" in 1977. In 1980, the strip was picked up by The Los Angeles Reader, where Matt worked delivering papers and doing minor editing. In 1982, the editor gave Matt his own column, supposedly rock and roll themed, but rarely actually about rock and roll. In an attempt to add more music news to the column, Matt often wrote reviews of bands he made up, only to apologize the next week, admitting the lie. Although each time, he swore he'd never do it again, he usually did. Finally, he was asked to write a humour column instead.

In 1985, James L. Brooks contacted Matt to work in animation, creating "bumpers" for the Tracy Ullman Show. Brooks originally wanted to use the Life in Hell characters, but Matt didn't want to sign over the rights. He designed the look of the Simpsons in fifteen minutes.

The Simpsons premiered on the Tracy Ullman Show in 1987, and became popular enough to create their own spin-off (which has survived much longer than the Tracy Ullman show). He now serves as the Creative Consultant on the Simpsons.

After researching science-fiction for a few years, Matt got together with

David S. Cohen

to develop Futurama. The show was a mild success, but ratings were poor thanks entirely to Fox's poor scheduling of the program when it was shown on the channel. While Futurama was never officially cancelled, Fox decided not to buy the fifth season and the program fell apart soon after.

Strong DVD sales and high syndication ratings may revive the show, someday.

Recently, on June 22, 2006, Comedy Central officially announced that they have ordered 13 new episodes of the series and that they plan to air sometime at the beginning of 2008. All of the original voice cast are to return for the new episodes as well. In the meantime, currently Futurama is syndicated in many countries around the world..

Additional Info
Trivia
*He is also in a rock band, called the Rock Bottom Remainders. Members include Dave Barry, Ridley Pearson, Scott Turow, Amy Tan, James McBride, Mitch Albom, Roy Blount Jr., Stephen King, Kathi Kamen Goldmark, and Greg Iles.
*Matt is left-handed, as are many of the characters he designs.
General Information
Hubert J. Farnsworth is an aged, eccentric inventor, and also the owner of Planet Express. The last living relative of Fry, he is crotchety, absent-minded, and (sometimes) brilliant. In addition to inventing things and running Planet Express, he also has tenure as a Professor at Mars University, where he teaches a class on "The Mathematics of Quantum Neutrino Fields" - a title he made up to scare students out of taking his class. He loves to invent dangerous and stupid things like Doomsday Devices and can be rather cruel and uncaring at times. He keeps sending his crew on suicide missions and sometimes seems somewhat downcast if they manage to return. Farnsworth is the oldest living member of the Academy of Inventors. His nemesis is Dr. Ogden Wernstrom. For some reason, the Professor has a soft spot for public nudity.

Biography
Professor Farnswort grew up in Hell's Laboratory, the nerdiest slum in New New York. He learned to read while still in diapers (at age 8), and quickly blossomed into a nerdy teenager. There is evidence he enjoyed role-playing games for a while. Later he took up the lonely life of a scientist, designing fancy sports cars, beautiful women and more from his tiny, one-room appartment. For fifty years he worked at Mom's Friendly Robot Company where he was instrumental in introducing technologies that still define today's average robot, including them being powered by burning alcohol causing greenhouse gasses. He once was in love with Mom, but broke up with her seventy years ago (that is around the age of 90). She was his first love, or at least the first he can still remember. Farnsworth has been lying about his age for decades, making himself ten years younger. He was the only human to return from the Near Death Star and has a twelve year old clone, his heir Cubert Farnsworth.

Isn't this episode called "The Luck of the Fryish"? DVD subtitles suggest it, please check else confusion might arise.

Nope, it's "Fryrish" -- made to rhyme with "Luck of the Irish". Where on the DVD is the title of the episode ever mentioned? And even if it is, I've found the DVD titles to be incredibly bad with some things. The subtitles call Lrrr "Lurr" and Fnog "Funog", so they aren't to be trusted. Link! (in fact, this link even mentions "The Luck of the Irish")

It was mentioned on the commentary of "The Sting". But you seem to be right - regular Wikipedia has your title as well.

Commentary doesn't have subtitles, though, does it...? You're confusing me. However, a dogpile search for the wrongness of the subtitles turns up this old PEEL thread: <-- Mentions a couple wrongnesses that I missed.

Well, at least my Season 4 DVDs have subtitles for the commentaries (Region 2). Don't know how it is with Region 1 though.

That's weird. I've never heard of commentaries having subtitles. Though sometimes I wish they did. Mine are region 1, so that explains the difference. [edit]: I wondered why your screenshots were PAL resolution. Now I knows.

Germany, man... good old Europe. Normally I have little dificulty understanding the characters and the commentary, because most people don't speak slang, but when in doubt, it's best to look at the subtitles so you get an idea what they meant. Although at the time I bought my DVDs in Britain, didn't want to wait for the German release and have no truck with the translations anyway - horrible stuff, most of the puns simply don't come across. In the original, I only don't get the ones related to celibrities I've never heard of...
CarlowCrabhttps://theinfosphere.org/index.php?title=The_Luck_of_the_Fryrish&diff=11664The Luck of the Fryrish2007-03-27T15:40:32Z
CarlowCrab: The Luck of the Fryrish moved to The Luck of the DRUNK MICKS

The Story
Act I: Get your piping hot horse-burgers!
In Old New York, sometime in the 20th century, Mrs. Fry is in labour. However, her attention seems to be on her portable radio, which is tuned in to a Mets game. Yancy Fry, Sr. names the child Philip, after those screwdrivers. Yancy Fry, Jr. is jealous of the name, but his father informs him that he's named after a proud line of Yancy Fry's. Yancy Fry, Sr. leaves the room, and Yancy steals a rocketship from a mobile hung over Philip's crib.

Back in the year 3000, the crew is attending the horseraces. Fry does horribly with is bets. Amy is with her parents in the luxury box, and, in their constant quest for grandchildren, they attempt to set up Amy with their best jockey. Leela and Hermes go to the concession stand for some horse-themed (and horse-derived) food. Meanwhile in the stables, Bender is drugging the horses with a hypo-spray. He is interrupted by a jockey, but drugs him as well. Fry prays to the horse-god in hopes of winning the final race, but his horse falls asleep due to Bender's drugging. Fry proclaims that he'll hold on to his last dollar, which then blows away. It lands on a power line, and after Fry is unable to reach it, he tries again with a rake. But lightning strikes the rake and electrocutes him. He seems only slightly hurt, but lightning strikes twice, knocking him from the telephone pole. He lands in a garbage can, and the concession stand cook dumps trash on top of him.

Act II: Dirt doesn't need luck.
In the past, Philip and Yancy are having a one-on-one game of basketball, where Fry is doing poorly. However, when sent to retrieve the ball, he finds a seven-leaf clover. After tucking it into his wristband, he makes an amazing shot and Yancy storms off.

In the year 3000, Bender counts his winnings from fixing the race, and Fry's head is still smoking from the lightning strike. Fry mentions his clover to the crew, and a wig-robot arrives with Fry's replacement hair. Zoidberg suggests that maybe the clover is still in the place he left it, so Fry plans to enter the ruins of Old New York to look for his clover. He recruits the help of Leela, who he'll need to bend the bars which might be blocking the tunnels. Bender, however, points out that "bending" is his middle name—Literally. Together, Fry, Leela, and Bender climb down a manhole to the ruins.

Act III: Stop hogging the clover!
Walking through the ruins of Old New York, Fry does the things he could never do before. Like proclaiming that Howard Stern is overrated, leaving payphones off the hook, and jaywalking. Though this last is foiled by a large lizard trampling Fry.

In the past, Yancy and Philip are trying out for a breakdancing troupe, who wish to win a competition, which gives parachute pants as a prize. After Philip's tryout, Yancy does the exact same routine, with poorly-disguised names. To show up Yancy, Philip performs the septuple headspin, three more rotations than the previoius record. Yancy then attempts to steal the clover from Philip, but Philip runs home.

In the ruins of Old New York, Bender mounts the subway tracks and Fry and Leela hop aboard. At the end of the line, it is shown that Bender has picked up another passenger. While walking through Fry's old neighborhood, Fry reminisces about the past, and meets one of his old neighbors. They arrive at Fry's old house, which, although in horrible condition, seems to have survived the alien attacks without damage (or at least, without further damage).

Act IV: Allow me!
Philip arrives home with Yancy in hot pursuit. Philip tries telling his mother, but she is, as usual, distracted by sports (this time, golf). Philip goes into the storage room/bomb shelter, where he hides the clover inside the sleeve for the Breakfast Club soundtrack, which is in turn locked into the Ronco Record Vault.

Fry, Bender, and Leela enter the storage room, and after the lock on the vault proves to be jammed, Bender opens it by oscillating on the structural resonance frequency of the vault. But Fry finds that the clover (as well as whatever else was hidden within the record sleeve) is missing. They leave Fry's house in defeat, but before they can leave the ruins of Old New York, they come upon a statue resembling Yancy, but with an inscription reading "Philip J. Fry"—and Fry's seven-leaf clover in his lapel. In rage, Fry strikes the statue, injuring his hand.

Act V: It's clovering time!
Somehow, they bring the statue back to Planet Express, where they learn about the person immortalized by the statue. A video on the internet shows Philip J. Fry's life. After a string of good luck, including being the first person on Mars, it is shown that he was buried with the clover, so it could bring him luck in the next life (perhaps, some Egyptians believe). Fry decides they should go to the cemetary and dig up the body to retrieve his clover.

Yancy prepares for his wedding, putting on the camouflage tuxedo that his father wore in Vietnam. While looking for music to play at the wedding, Yancy forces the lock on the Ronco Record Vault, and finds the Breakfast Club soundtrack. Inside it, he finds the seven-leaf clover.

On the Orbiting Meadows Cemetary, Fry, Leela, and Bender arrive at the gravesite, and begin digging. While digging, Fry knocks loose a chunk of moss from the tombstone.

Back in the past, Yancy and his wife are cuddling their newborn child. Yancy pulls the clover out of his pocket and gives it to the child. Yancy names the child Philip J. Fry, in honour of his lost brother.

While Fry is reading the inscription he uncovered, Bender strikes the casket and emerges with the clover (and his wedding ring). Leela, however, understands that Fry needs a moment alone, and sets off with Bender. Fry replaces the clover in the grave.
Trivia
*Fry's line, "It's cloverin' time!" is a reference to the Fantastic Four's The Thing, whose catchphrase is "It's klobberin' time!"
*The hypo-spray Bender uses is modeled after the ones on Star Trek.
*The drug Bender uses on the horses is "Comatonin".
*The closeup of the manhole was the logo for the Fox show, "The PJ's", who reciprocated by putting a picture of Fry on a milk carton in their show.
Home Planet: Unknown (probably no planet, as they came into being before the first planets formed)

General
The Brain Spawn are a race of big, flying brains who travel from planet to planet and destroy all sentient thought, which they hate, eventually eliminating the planet in question. They came into being milliseconds after the Medium-Sized Bang. They have been at war with the Nibblonians ever since. The Brain Spawn's ultimate goal is to gather all the knowledge in the universe. This ultimately leads to the construction of The Infosphere. The Brain Spawn cannot see, they only can detect the Delta Brain Waves of a sentient being. Their chief combat ability is to send out a stupefication field that eradicates all intelligence within the blast radius, presumably the field attacks the Delta Brain Wave itself. This makes Philip J. Fry the ultimate champion against the Brain Spawn, as he lacks the Delta Brain Wave and therefore can neither be seen nor fought by them.
The Brain Spawn hate conscious thought for several reasons, among which is the fact that thought by others than themselves hurts them. This is one of their few weaknesses.

The Brain Spawn have three apparent classes:
*Small Brains: Foot soldiers of a sort, not very intelligent, but have huge numbers. Capable of stupefying an entire planet in a matter of hours.
*Big Brains: A sort of "General", more intelligent, capable of speech, and can trap beings in fictional worlds created from books.
*Huge Brain: Only one ever seen, capable of firing a beam that can instantly kill large dinosaurs.
Biography
Dr. Ogden Wernstrom is Professor Farnsworth's nemesis and formerly one of his best students at Mars University slightly over 100 years ago. After one fateful pop quiz which Farnsworth graded an A-minus, Wernstrom swore that he would get his revenge even if it took a hundred years. He briefly succeeded in this at the Academy of Inventors annual symposioum in 3000 when he won the Academy Prize and got to grade Farnsworth's contribution, the Smell-O-Scope concept, an A-minus-minus. However, the Academy Prize was taken away from him again after the events concerning a giant ball of garbage headed straight for New New York and his revenge was thus foiled, yet he swore he would get Farnsworth for this even if it took another hundred years.

Dr. Wernstrom is a member of the University Council of Mars University. Among other things, he is manufacturing and constructing Killbots, which brings him into competition with Professor Farnsworth once again: They got into a fist fight at the "Roboticon 3003" over it. He briefly worked for Earth's government during the Global Warming crisis of 3003 and attempted to kill all robots on Earth with a great electromagnetic pulse (EMP).

Act I
After bender’s cooking puts the planet express crew to sleep, Bender searches for a way to spice it up from a black market. The store owner gives him pepper which was banned since it killed a species of invading aliens. Bender is then fired after his food kills the health inspector and the only job he can find is cooking for the Robot Devil. Who is then also killed from his cooking. This causes robots to stop coming to the church of robotology, and in the last moment of need, the preacherbot turns to bender to be the new Robot Devil.

Act II
With Leela and Fry as his minions, Bender ends up turning robot hell into a paradise for sinners. Fry then has to remind Bender that he has to torture the robots. Bender finds that being the devil is too hard work and runs off to work in a soup kitchen. Fry and Leela follow him and they all find the robot devil that faked his death to get a vacation on the sun. While they were gone all the sinners escaped so the devil uses a sin magnet to bring them back to hell. Bender is then revealed to be the reincarnation of the robot Buddha.

I was thinking maybe this one should be called "Mars University" to conform to the other episodes' standards, and the other should be called "Mars University (place)" ??

I dunno, I think this was the way to go (globviously, I did it); As long as we make sure all links point to the right page the only time it comes up is if someone searches for one of them; this way they go to the redirect, which imo is the easiest way all-around for them to find what they want. This way is also a bit safer if people do bad links (forgeting to specify which they want), and makes it easier to find and fix those links, just by viewing "What links here" for Mars University. But that's just one opinion; Jensor, Whaler, what do you two think?

Yes, I guess it's easier all around this way. You're right about the links. People will probably make a few links to Mars University, which is fine, cuz the redirect will help. And we can always search out the faulty links and point them in the right direction.

ow, Philip J. Fry is a different matter - Fry himself definately gets the name "Philip J. Fry" and his brother can be "Philip J. Fry II" or something. IMO in this instance a redirect is pointless - if the redirect is "Philip J. Fry (Redirect)" who would EVER link to that page? And there shouldn't be that many links to PJF II, just "Luck of the Fryrish", "PJF", and "Seven-Leaf Clover", "Mars", and "Orbiting Meadows"

I think you mean Fry's nephew. And he should also be listed on Fry's page, since he's the one that continued the family line after Fry was gone. But yes, His name is technically Philip J. Fry, II, and should be listed as such. This way, if they meant the "Original Martian", the link will be on the Philip J. Fry that they'll end up at.

er, yes, I meant nephew, I was just being a dumb-ass. And I listed Fry's page, just as PJF because I was tired of typing "Philip J. Fry" :)
CarlowCrab
