Nose Machine

The Nose Machine was created by Professor Farnsworth to produce glow-in-the-dark noses that can be worn over your regular, non-glowing nose. It can do other things as well—why shouldn't it? In addition to making noses, it can analyze alien languages and paper composition, the progress of which is measured by a series of dings. It produces huge amounts of a corrosive substance that looks like toxic waste, smells like toxic waste, but tastes like delicious fig pudding—although with a distinct aftertaste of toxic waste.
It was used first to create a glowing nose, which Bender found intriguing, as it meant he could punch people's noses in the dark. Later, it was used to analyze the note that was left with Leela when she was left at the orphanarium. The machine was unable to translate the note, but its analysis showed the paper to be of a squeezably soft variety, made mainly in the sewers.
