Shouldn't nearly everything on this site be in the future tense? Almost all of the events described are set in the future. For example, wouldn't it make more sense to say that Bender Bending Rodriguez ''will be'' built in 2996 rather than he ''was'' built in 2996? It's probably not worth arguing over and it would be a huge amount of work to change nearly every verb on the site to the future tense. I guess it's probably best to write this post off as the ravings of an anal-retentive dork. -- [[User: Kramer88|Kramer88]]

:Past tense is used for almost everything because the "present" is based on when the last episode was set. So in this context, articles are written as though today is {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{#expr: {{CURRENTYEAR}} +1000}}. However anything that happened to characters when they were in their future, are in the past of the characters' personal timeline, so past tense is still used. Future tense is reserved for events that have yet to happen, such as Amy, Kif and Leela's kids coming onto land, or anything in episodes/comics that are unreleased. - [[User:Quolnok|Quolnok]] 07:33, 4 August 2010 (CEST)

Discussion

Shouldn't nearly everything on this site be in the future tense? Almost all of the events described are set in the future. For example, wouldn't it make more sense to say that Bender Bending Rodriguez will be built in 2996 rather than he was built in 2996? It's probably not worth arguing over and it would be a huge amount of work to change nearly every verb on the site to the future tense. I guess it's probably best to write this post off as the ravings of an anal-retentive dork. -- Kramer88

Past tense is used for almost everything because the "present" is based on when the last episode was set. So in this context, articles are written as though today is 19 April 3024. However anything that happened to characters when they were in their future, are in the past of the characters' personal timeline, so past tense is still used. Future tense is reserved for events that have yet to happen, such as Amy, Kif and Leela's kids coming onto land, or anything in episodes/comics that are unreleased. - Quolnok 07:33, 4 August 2010 (CEST)
To clarify, this only applies to in-universe events. - Quolnok 07:41, 4 August 2010 (CEST)
