The fermion-barrier heat-exclusion spray is an invention of Professor Farnsworth's. Any item that is coated by the spray is painted gold and can survive in extremely high temperatures.
Both the ship and the crew were sprayed for their mission to the solar helium mine, in 3013. [7ACV18] The Professor tested the spray by covering Zoidberg with it and shoving him in the pool of lava in the Planet Express sub-basement. Zoidberg stepped out unharmed.
