The bean salesman is a man who, in 3013, bought the Planet Express ship from Fry at a spacecraft market, in exchange for two giant beans, which he said were magic.^[7ACV22] Fry needed money because Leela had to get surgery for her squidification, and the salesman told him that his wife had had the same condition, and that she was cured by the beans.

Later that day, the beans grew a beanstalk that went up to the clouds.

The bean salesman was first seen in a preview clip for 7ACV22, a week before the episode aired.

• The bean salesman is a reference to the man who sells Jack the magic beans in the British fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk".
