A robot identical to R2-D2 (third from the left) on display at the Museum of Natural Robo-History. [6ACV09] Also on display are a bedspring, a trilobot, a robot monkey, a robot caveman, and a robot human. The sign reads "ASCENT OF BOT" — a reference to the documentary T.V. series The Ascent of Man, the title of which is in turn a reference to Charles Darwin's book The Descent of Man. Present are Hermes, Bender, Fry, Amy, and Leela.

R2-D2 is a robot in the Star Wars fictional universe, where he is called a droid. Futurama has referenced the character a few times.
