Doug is one of the few people who chose to go on a date with Leela despite her eye. Their date went well until Leela discovered he had a 'vile lizard tongue' and quickly grew sick of him. This means he may possibly be a mutant, though considering New New York's stance on mutants prior to September 3010 and the Devolution Revolution, it is more likely that he is a humanoid alien.
