The helium miners are people who work at the solar helium mine. In 3013, fifteen of them were trapped in the mine, after a collapse caused by Zapp Brannigan, but they found safe haven in the mine's doom chamber. ^[7ACV18] Fry, Leela, and Bender were sent there, and kept laughing at their voices, which, due to the helium, were very high-pitched. Bender managed to rescue all the miners, and Mayor Poopenmeyer later awarded a medal to him.

The helium miners first appeared in a preview clip for 7ACV18, released nine days before the episode aired.
