I want to upload files, but how??

Hi there! Being an administrator, I hope that you can help me. Basically, I want to be an autoconfirmed user to be able to upload files and contribute to this wiki, but I have no idea how. What should I do? Thank you!

Autoconfirmed should happen in a few days time. Until then, you can still edit most pages. - Quolnok 11:03, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi there! It´s been 3 days since the last message and still nothing! I mean, WHY? I´m a member of the official wikipedia and also the lostpedia and I never had this problem...

Actually, it's been 26 hours, although I don't doubt this being on a three day period in your timezone. It is set to four days (96 hours) if I recall correctly. You probably would have encountered this on wikipedia if you tried to upload an image in the first couple of days. It's a fairly standard thing for mediawikis these days. - Quolnok 12:13, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Like to?

Would you like to sign up for this site? It is normal wiki thing like MediaWiki. URL [1] --Bender Bending Rodríguez 12:30, 3 December 2006 (PST)

"To be honest, I only seee the need for one wiki to exist covering any given topic (exceptions exist where wikis are only editable by registered users and no one can freely register, I don't count those as wikis) and as such I only intend to be active on one wiki for any given topic (plus wikipedia). [...] Thanks, but no." - Quolnok 20:02, 24 November 2006 (PST)
Four Futurama wikis? We needn't have two! Does the fact that you made a second Futurama wiki mean you are closing down the other one, or are we just spreading the Futurama-wikiers as far as possible? (that sounded less negative in my head) - Quolnok 17:45, 3 December 2006 (PST)

user boxes

"This user is on break" is the greatest thing I ever saw! I was thinking of boring stuff like proficiency in AL1/AL2 and how many episodes you can name (I can name them all within five seconds of starting. If I memorized the title captions, I'd be faster.) -- Buddy13 FW16.png 19:56, 3 December 2006 (PST)

Thanks. I was hoping to have a few more along the lines of that one. Also, I can't believe I didn't do the AL1/AL2 boxes, those are the ones Dagpile was trying on his userpage. - Quolnok 21:39, 3 December 2006 (PST)

Congratulations and... newbie mistake

I'd like to congratulate you all for making this interesting site. And, errr, I want to seize the opportunity to say that I have made a newbie mistake: I have made an article for [Glagnar's Human Rinds] but I didn't realize that this information is included in Sponsors (oops, sorry). I have partially fixed the mistake and now there isn't any article linking it, so it might be erased, and the image Glagnars.jpg too. Sorry and thanks. Bender22 01:38, 7 December 2006 (PST)

I'm sure everyone here's pleased to be helping to provide a useful website, particularly Buddy, who created it. As for the mistake, everyone's entitled to a few. You've been uploading quality screens too, which is always helpful, although the duplicates you mentioned will have to go. - Quolnok 02:06, 7 December 2006 (PST)

Do you know how to put a logo on a wiki using the image replacing way? What is the image replacing way? --Electricbolt 12:07, 31 December 2006 (PST)

You'd need to find where the image was uploaded first, then upload a new image with the same name over the top of it. - Quolnok 18:29, 31 December 2006 (PST)

Yes, and I was wondering how to create a logo on a wiki. The logo is title "Infosphere.png", but there isn't this image. Do you know how to change a logo? --Electricbolt 19:16, 31 December 2006 (PST)

A new logo for this wiki? If so just upload to [Image:NewLogo.png] and bring up the possibility of changing the logo on the Conference Table. If you're talking about another wiki, then I'm a little concerned by the name of the file. - Quolnok 19:32, 31 December 2006 (PST)

PHP Template

Do you know where to find a PHP template in MediaWiki wikis? --Electricbolt 11:57, 6 January 2007 (PST)

Not a clue, but there's probably a help page somewhere. - Quolnok 17:41, 6 January 2007 (PST)
I found the PHP template. It is "[LocalSettings.php]". You can change the logo here. To change a logo, read Buddy13's talk page for this info. --Electricbolt 14:03, 15 January 2007 (PST)

Ripping Images

Do you know how to "rip" images from DVDs? --Electricbolt 14:48, 27 January 2007 (PST)

If you mean "rip" as in to extract directly from the data on the disc then no, if you mean via a screenshot from a playing DVD, then yes; I use Nero ShowTime (included with most recent Nero burning software), which has a screenshot button. There are other programs with this feature but I can't list them off the top of my head, windows media player isn't one of them. - Quolnok 17:37, 27 January 2007 (PST)

I have Intervideo WinDVD 4, which has a screenshot button, but I do not have a right version, or either it is currently unavailable. It is the "P" button.

Unfortunately I don't think I can help you there, but check out that programs help pages and website. They may be useful. - Quolnok 15:36, 28 January 2007 (PST)

How I take screenshots (using MediaPlayer and Invervideo): Open the DVD in MediaPlayer, pause it (in a chapter, not the menu), then open IVWDVD, and find the place you want to take a screenshot of. Then activate the video window (as opposed to the control thingy), and hit CTRL or Shift + Print Screen. Open photoshop (or MSPaint, if you really have to) and crop off the edges of the window. Save as JPG, quality 80 or so. That's how I do it. Windows won't normally let you take a screenshot of a DVD (because they like to tell you what you can and can't do with things you own), but opening the DVD in two players confuses the blocking thingy. -- Buddy13 FW16.png 11:39, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Comics

Hey Quolnok, No, WA is on the same issue as the Eastern States (#23), however, since #24 came out in the US I have been buying the US editions from the comic store in Perth.

Sincerely, Ivan.

EDIT: Is it really true that the Time Bender Trilogy TPB isn't to be commercially released in Australia? Glad I got it from the comic store while I could, then :P

Yeah, I emailed HarperCollins Australia and they don't plan to publish it, but someone else might. They suggested overseas orders. I'm getting it through the US. The reissue of #16 is the next one out, but reissues are only done in the eastern states. - Quolnok 19:13, 29 January 2007 (PST)

Ban him!!!

Could someone ban [Tosha Trash] he has vandalised to much and moved me to User:Curpsbot and moved other pages I've moved them back but he's being ridiculous Humerbot 0.4 13:21, 12 February 2007 (PST)

Thanks for that also could you delete the pages he created like [David X. Cohen is Hitler Food] I moved the pages back but the pages are still there- Humerbot 0.4 04:27, 13 February 2007 (PST)

Your Template work

You seem to like templates. However, I strongly suggest you get the if parse extension. Trust me, you'll love it. That would mean you could have a single template for all episodes, even films. O_O Trust me, I am super hax to working with templates, and I suggest you get all the episodes listed in a single template, so users can click any episode if they like. I made it in here, cause you seem to the make the template master. You know what I mean, cause you haven't seen my skills yet. ·_· --Svip 16:53, 23 March 2007 (PDT)

Well, I'm not able to access the areas needed to install the parser, which requires at least MediaWiki 1.6 anyway. I did mention the function, for other purposes, to Buddy at one point. Actually my first design for the nav used the default value option templates can have in later versions, it doesn't yet work here so I just went with what was possible.
As for a mass list of all episodes on each episode article, someone attempted one at one point but never finished and it got deleted. I created the first NavTemplate after seeing similar on other wikis, it looked wierd at the top where the others had it due to the structure of our articles. I have seen a number of places with the template you are refering to and they can look good, I think I'd want to hide the large list by default (not possible here). A conversion of the current one at wikipedia may be okay, but we'd end up with two lumps at the bottom of the articles.
Unless we are cunning enough to find a smart way to sort them out. If you know what I mean. Perhaps some javascript could help, but that would require direct access to the server. And Buddy doesn't seem to respond to the suggestions about the Pretty URLs I made on his user talk page. --Svip 18:11, 23 March 2007 (PDT)

Recent spamme

Thanks for fixing all those; I started to, but when I was gone for so long Buddy took my admin status so I can't actually revert or ban anymore. Going through to edit & resave the last version of each from the history seemed like a pain in the butt, and it was late so I just left it knowing you'd be by shortly, heh. :) Gopher 08:10, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

Rights should be restored now. :D --Buddy 13:47, 22 April 2007 (PDT)

Templates

You seem to be the master of the templates... well at least in control of them... what about we have the "browser" template for each episode article in the top of the article? Example: [2]. Notice the "section" links at the top. This will be nice when doing "quick" browsering. --SvipTalk 13:22, 30 April 2007 (PDT)

I'm not sure. The style of navbar currently in use is only suitable down the bottom. Granted, if/when the episode infoboxes are applied to all the episodes those things may change completely. feel free to do test runs for new templates, but keep in mind that any info perovided by the existing templates needs to be provided in the article somewhere after the template is replaced (Gopher's episode infobox lacks the commentary link and he removed the navbar). If you need to, you can play with [Template:EpisodeNavTemplateV2|these]. The finalised version of the movie nav is the one with prodcodes, although variable order has been tweaked for that template. The last two are not yet in use, so we may neeed those later. - Quolnok 21:02, 30 April 2007 (PDT)

Say...

I know this question makes me feel silly. But when you revert you seem to use some sort of feature in the system, how do you use it? It would good for my anti-spam bot. --SvipTalk 06:08, 12 June 2007 (PDT)

At the sysop (and beurucrat) userlevels, and possbily the bot userlevel, we have this slightly different line on the recent changes
(diff) (hist) . . ! Category:Organizations; 20:29 . . 77.69.65.15 (Talk | block)
the revert is done through (diff), over to the right is a [rollback] link if the change was the last done to the page, that may be available to other registered users too. There's an "undo" option on the most recent version of MediaWiki (used at wikipedia) that does the same. - Quolnok 06:21, 12 June 2007 (PDT)
Also on the user contribution page;
23:21, 12 June 2007 (hist) (diff) User talk:Quolnok (→Say...) (top) [rollback]
wherever the user made the last edit to the page the label "top" is there and "rollback" is accessable. There is no confirmation page, clicking the link instantly triggers a rollback. If the page is new, you have to access the page and use the delete tab at the top of the page. - Quolnok 06:35, 12 June 2007 (PDT)
Speaking of which, can you add SvipBot as a bot user? --SvipTalk 08:11, 12 June 2007 (PDT)
In theory, yes. But that seems to beone of the things Bureaucrats can do and sysops can't, I'm the only sysop that isn't also a Bureaucrat. [3] Buddy is probably the one to go to, I'll copy this there. - Quolnok 18:15, 12 June 2007 (PDT)

French version

Hello ! I'm a french boy who is very interested by Futurama (excuse me if i've not a good english ^^). So I will begin to change articles and almost create articles. I just warn you that I will do many revisions in french version =) Lexours 18:07, 29 October 2009 (UTC)

Well, from what can tell, the non-English versions are rarely edited, so it's good to know someone's editing them. - Quolnok 10:10, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
Certainly appreciate those members familiar with the another languages who are willing to do it. --Svip 11:14, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

Happy Halloween

I wonder what became of Halloween in the year 3000. BenderZombie 11:00, 31 October 2009 (UTC)

Happy Halloween; Although it isn't really celebrated in Australia. I've no idea what happened to the day in 3000. It certainly hasn't been mentioned on the show or comics. - Quolnok 01:14, 1 November 2009 (UTC)

Character pictures

Hi, I'm new here, and just getting to grips with things! Anyway, I wanted to ask if it would be OK to add photos of the characters (to use in the infobox) with a transparent background, which various other wikis use. If you are OK with that, and the others?, I'll add then. But if not, no worries. Thanks! Effluvium 22:40, 25 May 2010 (CEST)

Welcome aboard! We generally prefer a nice character-centric, non-cropped screen capture for infoboxes, however where there is no promotional picture for a character and their article has space for one I think it would be nice to have a clean full length picture like on Amy's page. Due to the black outline every character has and our site's black background, white may be better than transparent in most cases. - Quolnok 00:43, 26 May 2010 (CEST)

A vandal is on the loose!

He is User:Vandalist. Please block the mother#@&$er so he can not do any harm to this wiki again.

BenderZombie 21:21, 28 July 2010 (CEST)

Good job, but I think we should block him for a longer time than six months. Six months may go by a lot quicker than it will seem. I don't want that perverted sick son of a bitch to be coming back to vandalize this place EVER!

BenderZombie 08:12, 29 July 2010 (CEST)

yeah, he's back. can't you block his IP address? --I'm Scruffy... the Janitor. 10:43, 29 July 2010 (CEST)
I blocked it the first time. Either he's got an IP that changes regularly, or he's at work/school now/previously. - Quolnok 13:44, 29 July 2010 (CEST)

Chronological list of captains and their crew

I had made a section called "A chronological list of captains and their crew" under the Planet Express Ship section, was it spam or was it considered not necessary?

I cannot speak on Quolnok's behalf, but my assumption would be the latter. The Personnel section in the Planet Express article provides a much better overview, since it also includes positions.
However, that is not to say that such a list should not be done, but in order for a chronological list of the crews to look good, it would require an article reserved for itself, because without thorough detail on the matter, it just becomes an unreadable list. A table may also be preferable. --Sviptalk 23:41, 14 August 2010 (CEST)

Promotional picture

Those promo pics you added are beautiful. Where'd you find them? Are they good enough for the infoboxes? Sanfazer 20:39, 1 February 2011 (CET)

I agree. I found them on Eleven's site about a month ago. This batch of images is definitely a better match to what we see on the screen and this version of the images are roughly the same shape as a screenshot so they won't stretch the infoboxes to ridiculous proportions, which was my main problem with the older, cropped ones. I'm having trouble finding a reason not to use them. Trivia: The filename of Scruffy's picture called him "Scriffy". - Quolnok 21:30, 1 February 2011 (CET)
LOL. Yeah. It was a pretty lucky turn of events, wasn't it?
I'll be putting some of them in the main characters' articles tomorrow. Is that okay with you? Sanfazer 23:41, 1 February 2011 (CET)
I'm going to allow this. - Quolnok 23:54, 1 February 2011 (CET)
One edit led to another, and I ended up inserting all ten images. I'm so happy. Sanfazer 19:28, 2 February 2011 (CET)

Infoboxes

I saw that you had to undo vandalism to an infobox. When you take into account our discussion about the episode infoxbox on Svip's page, wouldn't it make sense to use this as a reason to make sure the other infoboxes are protected? For example, the Item infobox isn't protected and it links to over 100 pages. Further, aside from Sanfazer wanting to change one word, there isn't even a reason for a regular user to alter an infobox. Teyrn of Highever 12:31, 27 March 2011 (CEST)

You make a persuasive argument Teyrn. To be honest I thought most of them were protected. It turns out only the character one was fully protected... Initiating wave of cascading admin-only protections. - Quolnok 13:28, 27 March 2011 (CEST)
Actually, as you noticed, only two or three were. Now, any spammers will be forced alter singular pages, and those who patrol the recent changes, such Sanfazer and myself included, should be able to take care of it. And while any vandalism looks bad for The Infosphere, one or two pages being vandalized looks better than one hundred. Teyrn of Highever 15:27, 27 March 2011 (CEST)

Talk:Planet Express crew

Hey, when you get the chance, could you head over to this page? The conversation has stalled and we could use your opinion. Teyrn of Highever 19:55, 6 May 2011 (CEST)

Alrighty then. - Quolnok 05:19, 7 May 2011 (CEST)

Helping Out

I was looking for something to do, (clicking random page and hoping to find something in need of an edit wasn't getting anywhere), when I stumbled on to the Tasks list for the site. Looking at it, the to do list is extremely out of date. You were the last person to update it and that was October 2009. Don't you think that the Tasks page should be redone so editors know what needed to be fixed? The Wiki Maintenance page is useful, but even that has its flaws, (reasons for update tags not put in history nor is it always obvious what the issue is). Any thoughts about an update? Teyrn of Highever 17:09, 10 May 2011 (CEST)

And that was only a revert. This is the second article like this that has been abandoned, the previous is a redirect after two years of disuse. A year after the last constructive edit to this page Current_events was re purposed to be similar in part to this... but that part of it also hasn't changed for quite a while. Still a little better though. - Quolnok 12:10, 11 May 2011 (CEST)
Since the page was abandoned, will it be deleted? By your own admission, it doesn't really serve a purpose. It doesn't really make sense to keep an old to do list. Teyrn of Highever 12:30, 11 May 2011 (CEST)

Images behind text

Hi, I'm just wondering how you got the images to go behind the text on the Main Page. I previously asked Sanfazer this, but he has not yet responded. Phinbart (talk) 13:29, 1 August 2012 (CEST)

By setting them as a background image? --Buddy (talk) 20:56, 1 August 2012 (CEST)
Yup the backgroundImage CSS property. It isn't set on the page itself though. MediaWiki:Vector.css gives a default and MediaWiki:Vector.js has code to pick one of several and put it in place. - Quolnok (talk) 01:27, 2 August 2012 (CEST)

Some images not displaying

There are a couple of images on my user page that aren't displaying. All of them are in user boxes. I asked Buddy about it, and he directed me to you. You got any idea what's going on? Kif (talk) 03:09, 26 October 2012 (CEST)

I suspect it has to do with this issue. I'm not entirely sure of the cause, but uploading to the same file location whether on the pool or main makes it worse. Deleting and recreating seems to fix it, but that's a bit of a hassle if we need to do that to all the older images. - Quolnok (talk) 10:48, 26 October 2012 (CEST)
I see. That's pretty annoying. Thanks for doing what you could. Kif (talk) 02:29, 27 October 2012 (CEST)
I don't know what your method is Quolnok, but I'll post mine so that we may compare. I started by trying to overwrite the image from it's source (The Pool), but then I noticed I couldn't, so I uploaded it and just added "-2" to the end of the file name. Afterwards, I just update the image's file name on the page that has the "image problem" and it seems to fix the problem (See Nosy Inquirer). The only problem with this method is the duplication of some image files on The Pool which would require us to either delete or leave as is. - Barder2000 (talk) 00:37, 28 October 2012 (CEST)
Yep, that's basically the non-admin version of what I did. Although I think the images at fault are the ones uploaded to the main site from before the pool existed. If you upload to the main wiki, it fails and corrupts the original. - Quolnok (talk) 02:56, 28 October 2012 (CEST)

Yeah, maybe. Need to be able to upload for that though. Also there's some minor restyling I've been thinking about. - Quolnok (talk) 03:51, 17 February 2013 (CET)
Anything I'd be interested in? Sanfazer (talk) 15:45, 17 February 2013 (CET).
If it's done right, people won't be sure I've done anything at all. Basically, it has to do with how the same colour in a background image renders different when it's used in CSS in certain browser/OS combinations. At the moment I believe Win 98 - Vista is fine, but there's an issue in Win 7 and a different issue in Apples (and PSP if I remember correctly) - Quolnok (talk) 05:51, 18 February 2013 (CET)
So it was something I'd be interested in.

Default sorting

{{DEFAULTSORT:Ballad of Me, Ramblin' Rodriguez, The}}

How would this work? Sanfazer (talk) 18:12, 27 July 2013 (CEST).

If that does what I think it does then the number of commas in there is irrelevant (until it needs to compare the comma character alphabetically) and it will sort as expected. - Quolnok (talk) 18:32, 27 July 2013 (CEST)
You mean as if the title were "Ramblin' Rodriguez, The Ballad of Me"? Sanfazer (talk) 18:36, 27 July 2013 (CEST).
Which, by the way, is sort of funny. Sanfazer (talk) 18:37, 27 July 2013 (CEST). [no pun intended] Sanfazer (talk) 23:40, 27 July 2013 (CEST).
No, I mean it should sort as "Ballad of Me, Ramblin' Rodriguez, The". Just as {{DEFAULTSORT:Ballad of Me, Rambling Rodriguez, The}} and {{DEFAULTSORT:Ballad of Me, Ramblin, Rodriguez, The}} would sort as "Ballad of Me, Rambling Rodriguez, The" and "Ballad of Me, Ramblin, Rodriguez, The". They'd go in ASCII order presumably, with the comma, apostrophe and 'g' being the characters they sort on. - Quolnok (talk)

Red is for no. Blue is for yes. Sanfazer (talk) 16:48, 31 July 2013 (CEST).

Guess red is actually for "blip gang" (which doesn't exist yet) and blue is for "crud gang". Or maybe it's the other way around. (What am I? Melllvar, knower of the episodes?) Sanfazer (talk) 06:34, 1 August 2013 (CEST).

I'd really like to get this done before the show ends. Sanfazer (talk) 07:02, 23 August 2013 (CEST).

Probably no use for it, then. Sanfazer (talk) 05:17, 28 July 2013 (CEST).

Buddy, Quolnok, and Svip haven't voted yet

Will they vote yet? yes? Sanfazer (talk) 17:23, 3 September 2013 (CEST).

Murder on the Planet Express

Why did you do this? Sanfazer (talk) 19:33, 25 August 2013 (CEST).

I think I read "an old paranoid kook" as "an paranoid old kook" which would have been wrong, if it had said that. "an old paranoid kook" or "a paranoid old kook" were the correct options. - Quolnok (talk) 01:28, 26 August 2013 (CEST)
Minus ten points for Sanfazer for not reverting it right away. Sanfazer (talk) 01:33, 26 August 2013 (CEST).
I might have been influenced by this, which I'd stumbled upon a few hours earlier, although that doesn't have anything to do with anything. Sanfazer (talk) 01:38, 26 August 2013 (CEST).
Also, since Svip hasn't edited in a month, do you think you can help with the discussion maybe? Sanfazer (talk) 01:41, 26 August 2013 (CEST).

Infosphere roll call 5

Table:Random good article. Sanfazer (talk) 08:47, 14 December 2013 (CET).

It's not as long as it looks. Sanfazer (talk) 18:35, 26 December 2013 (CET).

What are your thoughts on this? And please don't tell me they're kind of random. Sanfazer (talk) 23:53, 5 January 2014 (CET).

We need someone to step forward. I pick

Aki

Buddy

Quolnok

Svip

</random>

{{PAGENAME}}. And by {{PAGENAME}} I mean Quolnok.

Oops. I made this joke a month ago. Sanfazer: [talk] 01:41, 14 January 2014 (CET).

Issue #73

Do you recognise the robot behind Clamps on the cover? Sanfazer: [talk] 20:13, 21 August 2014 (CEST).

Page right seems to be one of the general use background bots, page left might be Donbot. - Quolnok (talk) 12:35, 4 September 2014 (CEST)
I think the robot on the left looks more like URL. (That's what I wrote in the article.) Sanfazer: [talk] 15:43, 4 September 2014 (CEST).
Far page left is definitely URL, he's not directly behind Clamps. Page left of Clamps, right of Bender, completely in shadow is probable Donbot. - Quolnok (talk) 01:51, 5 September 2014 (CEST)
I don't see him. But maybe.
We probably shouldn't list him, since there are no eyes or mouth. Do you concur? (I'm already in silence.) Sanfazer: [talk] 03:05, 5 September 2014 (CEST).

Issue #74

As the last word in the title, shouldn't the word "if" be capitalized? Sanfazer: [talk] 21:48, 26 February 2015 (CET).

Possibly, but the 'i' was the only character in the title that was lower case. I'd need to double check but it may also be the only lower case character in the issue, which would be pretty significant given that part of NNY was turned into text. - Quolnok (talk) 23:36, 26 February 2015 (CET)
Having a standard for capitalization is one thing, but if the comic gives its own capitalization then I think we should use *that*. Sanfazer: [talk] 14:45, 27 February 2015 (CET).

Srry....

I thought I'd taken care of all the vandalism. Hope it wasn't any trouble! Nalexa (talk) 17:14, 21 May 2015 (CEST)

Hi there

Just a quick question, was there ever anything in Futurama that involved a very large space compressed into a small area? 121.219.251.72 11:01, 17 October 2015 (CEST)

Well, the first thing that comes to mind is The Farnsworth Parabox an episode which features alternate universes in cardboard boxes. Second choice is the comic Doctor What, which is largely a Doctor Who parody. Third option is a cardboard box in the comic Boomsday!, which is also a Doctor Who reference. - Quolnok (talk) 14:22, 17 October 2015 (CEST)

Local Resturaunts are Blocked

I was eating at the local Pizza Hut the other day and I noticed the WiFi there is blocked (ip 199.27.128.116). I also ate at a local cafe and noticed it too was blocked (ip 108.162.216.216). May I ask the reason? --Naboo (talk) 04:22, 27 February 2016 (CET)

Vandalism has come through those IPs, they've got 1 month blocks. - Quolnok (talk) 07:08, 27 February 2016 (CET)
